Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction

چکیده
Pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction is defined as a partial or total blockage to urinary outflow from the renal pelvis into the proximal ureter causing dilatation of the collecting system and potentially progressive renal damage, if left untreated [1]. The PUJ obstruction is the most common site of obstruction in the upper urinary tract of children. Before the advent of ultrasonography, the most common presenting symptom was intermittent flank or abdominal pain, reported in approximately 50% of older children. Other symptoms included urinary tract infection, hematuria, and palpable intra-abdominal masses. In infants, approximately 50% of intra-abdominal masses were of renal origin and 40% of them were associated with PUJ obstruction. Antenatal ultrasound and new imaging techniques have resulted in more frequent and earlier diagnosis of fetal and neonatal hydronephrosis and PUJ obstruction [2]. Optimal management of PUJ obstruction is difficult because of the degree of obstruction, functional variability, extent of renal damage and possibility for regeneration in growing kidneys. The outcome of PUJ obstruction is quite

Functional Stenosis as a Cause of Pelvi-ureteric Obstruction
The operative findings in cases of hydronephrosis often do not suggest any obvious cause of obstruction, and as Innes Williams (1958) has recently emphasized the pathology of hydronephrosis cannot be discussed solely in terms of anatomy. When by pyelography the diagnosis of hydronephrosis in a child has been established, the cause of the hydronephrosis can be one out of many. From the surgical ...

متن کاملUrinoma in a Newborn with Double Obstruction: Posterior Urethral Valve and Pelvi Ureteric Junction Obstruction - Causing Diagnostic Dilemma
There are few cases reporting urinoma secondary to posterior urethral valve (PUV) in literature. Urinoma secondary to a pelvi ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction is very rare. We report a newborn with urinary ascites in whom both PUV and PUJ obstruction co-existed causing a diagnostic dilemma.
متن کاملUreteric Angiomyolipoma Causing Unilateral Pelvi-ureteric Junction Obstruction.
A 63-year-old lady, presented to us with nonspecific abdominal pain. Ultrasonography (USG) and CT scan abdomen and pelvis, showed right moderate hydronephrosis, with no evidence of mass at pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction. Per-operatively mass upper ureter was found obstructing PUJ. Mass was excised and pyeloplasty done, with Double J (DJ) Stenting. Stent was removed after a week. Hist...
متن کاملMantle cell lymphoma presenting as a pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction: a case report
INTRODUCTION Mantle cell lymphoma is one of the several subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Mantle cell lymphoma is the rarest of the subtypes, accounting for about 6% of all non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cases in the United States and Europe. Lymphoid neoplasms of the urinary tract and male genital organs are relatively rare, accounting for less than 5% of extranodal lymphomas. We present a rare case...
